What the clinics treat

IVF
Eggs collected after ovarian stimulation are fertilised in the laboratory, and an embryo is transferred to the uterus.
ICSI
A single sperm is injected into each mature egg under the microscope, often when sperm count or motility is low.
IMSI
A form of ICSI that examines sperm at much higher magnification before one is selected for injection.
PGT-A
A few cells from each embryo are checked for an abnormal number of chromosomes before transfer.
PGT-M
Embryos are tested for a specific inherited condition known to run in the family before transfer.
Fertility preservation
Eggs are frozen by vitrification for possible later use, for example before cancer treatment.
TESE / micro-TESE
Sperm is retrieved surgically from testicular tissue when none is found in the ejaculate, for use with ICSI.
